Steps to create
your own website using MS FrontPage and upload it to a remote server
- Create a folder
anywhere on your computer where you want all the files of your website to
be in. For example: I have created a folder in the path h:\new. This is your root folder.
- Open MS FrontPage and
click on ëOpen Siteí under the ëFileí Menu. Find the particular folder (h:\new)
you have created and select the particular folder and click on the ëOpení
button. A pop-up appears asking ëDo you want to
add FrontPage information to "H:\new" ?í. click on ëYesí.
- A screen will appear
showing folders ë_privateí and ëimagesí. Both folders can be deleted manually or
by using the X button in the
left most pane after selecting the particular folder.
- Now the new folder is
ready to use. This is the folder where you create the website. All
web-pages are created inside this particular folder. Sub Folders to store
images and other resource files must also be present under the root folder.
Note: The new folder is always the local copy of your website. The remote
copy exists in your web-server.
- After your website is
created, Click on the ëRemote Web Siteí
button present in the bottom of your page on the left-side.
- Now click on the ëRemote Web Site Propertiesí present on the corner
of the right-hand side of the page. A pop-up of the same name must open.
- Select the ëftpí radio button. Under the ëRemote Web siteí
location type ëftp://afs1.njit.eduí and
under the ëFTP Directoryí type out ëpublic_htmlí
- ÝClicking on ëOKí
will show another pop-up named ëName and Password
Requiredí.
- Under the user-name
& password field type out your UCID and PASSWORD and enter.
- ÝA screen appears showing two panes. The
left-side pane shows the local website and the right side pane shows the
remote website folder.
- Click on ëPublish Web siteí found in the bottom of the
right hand corner of the page after selecting the radio button ëLocal to remoteí.
- Your website has been
published.
Note: If you want to make any changes to your website,
first make the change in the local copy (h:\new).
After this when you want to publish these new files follow steps 5, 8 ñ 11.
