Steps to create your own website using MS FrontPage and upload it to a remote server

  1. Create a folder anywhere on your computer where you want all the files of your website to be in. For example: I have created a folder in the path h:\new. This is your root folder.
  2. Open MS FrontPage and click on ‘Open Site’ under the ‘File’ Menu. Find the particular folder (h:\new) you have created and select the particular folder and click on the ‘Open’ button. A pop-up appears asking ‘Do you want to add FrontPage information to "H:\new" ?’. click on ‘Yes’.
  3. A screen will appear showing folders ‘_private’ and ‘images’. Both folders can be deleted manually or by using the X button in the left most pane after selecting the particular folder.
  4. Now the new folder is ready to use. This is the folder where you create the website. All web-pages are created inside this particular folder. Sub Folders to store images and other resource files must also be present under the root folder. Note: The new folder is always the local copy of your website. The remote copy exists in your web-server.
  5. After your website is created, Click on the ‘Remote Web Site’ button present in the bottom of your page on the left-side.
  6. Now click on the ‘Remote Web Site Properties’ present on the corner of the right-hand side of the page. A pop-up of the same name must open.
  7. Select the ‘ftp’ radio button. Under the ‘Remote Web site’ location type ‘ftp://afs1.njit.edu’ and under the ‘FTP Directory’ type out ‘public_html’
  8.  Clicking on ‘OK’ will show another pop-up named ‘Name and Password Required’.
  9. Under the user-name & password field type out your UCID and PASSWORD and enter.
  10.  A screen appears showing two panes. The left-side pane shows the local website and the right side pane shows the remote website folder.
  11. Click on ‘Publish Web site’ found in the bottom of the right hand corner of the page after selecting the radio button ‘Local to remote’.
  12. Your website has been published.

Note: If you want to make any changes to your website, first make the change in the local copy (h:\new). After this when you want to publish these new files follow steps 5, 8 – 11.
